Ans: Franz was expected to be prepared with the rules of participles that day for School.As his french teacher M.Hamel had announced that he would question them on participles.
2. What did Franz notice that was unusual about the school that day?
Ans: Usually there would be a great bustle of opening and Closing of the desk ,lessons repeated loudly and the teachers rules rapping on the table but that day was very calm and quiet like sunday morning.The back bancher which were usually empty were occupied by tha village people and M.Hamel were his special dress and was walking up and down with a ruler under his arm.
3. What had been put up on the bulletin- board?
Ans: For the last two years all the bad news had come from the bulletin board .An order that had come from Berlin had been put up on the bulletin board.The order was that from the next day only.German would be tought in the Schools of Alasca and Larraine and the new tacher would join school from the following day.

Ans: The order from Berlin brought an end to French lessons, made that day a solemn and emotional occasion, and made the people realize the value of their language which they had taken for granted.
2. How did Franz’s feelings about M. Hamel and school change?
Ans: Franz came to know that it was the last lesson in French that M.Hamel would give them from the next day they will be taught only German.The he felt sorry for not learning his lessons properly his books,which seemed a nuisance and burden earlier were now old friend.His feelings about M.Hamel also changed.He forgot all about his ruler and how Cranky he was.
